Ruth is a founding trustee of the Sunflower Children's Hospice Trust and has been raising funds for Sunflower Children's Hospice and other charitable projects in the Free State since 1999, when she first visited the region. After seeing first-hand the desperate need that existed in the province Ruth began fundraising in the UK upon her return, and her drive and determination to raise awareness and funds in a more concerted way ultimately led her to form the trust in 2002. Ruth is a qualified nurse and for most of her working life has worked within the voluntary sector in both paid and voluntary roles.
Ian is a consultant project manager with a number of multi-million pound grant funded projects to his credit. Ian has successfully bid for and managed Heritage Lottery, DEFRA, and landfill tax funds as well as private charitable trust funds. Previously Ian has managed a European environmental fund for Government Office North West. Ian currently works for an environmental charity and advises not-for-profit organisations on business and project development.
Gareth has been a supporter of Sunflower Children's Hospice since 2010, when he spent 3 weeks volunteering in Bloemfontein, and joined the Sunflower Children's Hospice Trust as trustee and treasurer in 2015. A Chartered Accountant, Gareth currently lives in Lichfield with his wife and young twins. He has completed the Cardiff Half Marathon and the Great South Run to raise funds for the charity.
Vanessa has enjoyed a 30 year career in nursing and palliative care. She worked for 10 years at Martin House Children's Hospice and set up the Rainbows Childrens Hospice in Loughborough. She currently works at St. Leonard's Hospice in York. Vanessa is an enthusiastic fundraiser and prolific crafter, often combining the two through the sale of her design creations.
